St. George's School (Building Bridges)
What They Do
St. George's School is a co-ed, college-preparatory boarding and day school in Middletown, Rhode Island, serving students in grades 9–12. Overlooking the Atlantic, the school blends rigorous academics, arts, and athletics with a close-knit residential community grounded in values of respect, integrity, and service. The Building Bridges program introduces students from historically underrepresented backgrounds to independent school life and pathways into teaching and student support roles in that setting.
Where Howard Fits
Howard students—especially those interested in independent schools, boarding school life, and equity work in predominantly white institutions—can find roles as teaching fellows, dorm staff, coaches, or program coordinators with Building Bridges and related initiatives. It's a chance to design culturally responsive experiences, mentor high school students, and see how questions of inclusion, access, and belonging play out in a small, resource-rich school community.
Why Talk to Them
Talk to St. George's if you're curious about working in boarding schools, want to help diversify and humanize independent school spaces, or see yourself combining teaching, advising, and residential life. It's a good fit if you like the idea of deep relationships with students, small classes, and living where you teach.
